Sponsored by the Department of State’s U.S. Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the Tomorrow’s Leaders Program offers undergraduate and graduate scholarships for accomplished students from socioeconomically underserved backgrounds who represent the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s cultural, religious, and geographic diversity.
Eligibility:
- Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank/Gaza, or Yemen.
- Undergraduates must meet the following criteria to be eligible: Current high school senior or 2021-2022 graduate, and the current high school seniors must maintain their high academic achievement and pass their leaving exam.
- Fluency in written and oral English. Minimum TOEFL iBT rating of 80 (received within two years of the date of application).
- Demonstrate financial need. Candidates must be under-represented or economically meritorious and must provide supporting financial documents.
- Be able to travel and begin their undergraduate program in August/September of 2023.
- Solid academic qualifications.
- Maturity, adaptability, and leadership potential.
- Graduates must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Evidence of academic English proficiency.
- Commit to completing their master’s degree within two academic years.
- Demonstrate financial need. Candidates must be under-represented or economically meritorious and must provide supporting financial documents.
- Ability to travel and start their undergraduate program in August/September of 2023.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Maturity, adaptability, and leadership potential.
Fields of Study:
Tomorrow’s Leaders have a wide variety of academic programs that they can pursue at the American University of Beirut, the American University in Cairo, and Lebanese American University
Timeline:
- The application for the program is launched online on September 5, 2022.
- The deadline to submit the applications is December 5, 2022, at 11:59 pm EST.
- The applicants who submitted their application on 2022, when accepted they are expected to start their studies in August 2023.
Benefits:
- Through this program, applicants develop many hard and soft skills, such as their strength in critical thinking and as the tomorrow’s leaders, they find creative solutions to the challenges facing their communities, the MENA region, and the world.
- Tomorrow’s Leaders have access to exciting internships, dedicated faculty mentors, and enrichment workshops that help them develop their leadership abilities.
- Undergraduate participants have the opportunity to study abroad in the United States for one semester. By engaging with host communities through volunteer projects and civic engagement activities.
- Tuition and enrollment fees (for a maximum period of four academic years)
- University health insurance
- Entrance visa and residency permit fees
- Student housing (double occupancy)
- Monthly living stipend when participating in TL activities
- Textbook allowance
- Laptop (for use for the duration of the program)
- Two round-trip tickets to home country, territory, or place of residence per year
- An opportunity to study at a university in the United States (undergraduate students only)
